MR16 to GU10 Lamp Holder Conversion
These are mainly recommended for converting your existing MR16 fitment lamps back to GU10 lamp holders. If you already have MR16 halogen lamps, these will normally have a transformer attached to each light which steps to voltage down from 240V to 12V. It is possible to get 12v MR16 energy saving led lamps but these require an ‘led driver transformer’ that supplies a special constant voltage, this which is different to your existing 12v transformer. It is normally cheaper to convert back to a GU10 than buying the led driver.
To covert the wiring back to a GU10 fitment, simply turn off the electric supply, pull out the cabling from the light fitting and remove the existing transformer, then safely connect the gu10 lamp holder to the 240v cabling and cover with an electrical connector box or choc box. The previous MR16 halogen down light fitting will then accept the new GU10 led.
